Small Pieces of History

Industrial archaeology is a reminder of what went before the area was redeveloped as a 1990’s housing development.
This structure formed part of the engine house and contained the winding gear for the pit cage that lowered the miners deep underground to the coal face in one of the Bristol coal mines.
Coal was dug in around Bristol from the 1500’s until 1963 when the last colliery closed.
